“Kolo’s Kennel was started in 1988 by Larry & Shirley Gerber, (my parents), with the purchase of their first purebred Siberian Husky, (named “Copper”). My parents and I fell in love with Siberian Huskies because of our farm dog “Kolo”, whom they rescued from the Humane Society in 1982. Kolo quickly became a part of our family, and needless to say, we named our kennel after him. From our first registered Siberian Husky, “Copper”, Shirley continued o grow the kennel, selecting breeding stock that had excellent bloodlines and temperament, (these characteristics are still present in our kennel today). In 2002 Larry and Shirley built a brand new kennel, with state of the art features to ensure an excellent facility for our dogs and puppies for years to come.
In 2007, Larry and Shirley decided it was time to retire from farming and the Huskies, and move into town. At that time, my wife Melissa, our 1-year-old son Reid and I moved to the farm and took over the kennel. I had been raised on this farm and grew up with a love of the Huskies, and my wife and son soon developed a love for the breed as well. Larry and Shirley are still involved in our farming operation, and still help out with the kennel from time to time. Shirley spent years of hard work developing the kennel, and building a great reputation that Melissa and I intend to keep going for the next generation to come”.
